This year's National Day Parade was held in many locations. Queenstown YEC is offered a pair of tickets for the actual parade at the Padang while the others are offered entry to our district decentralised parade held at Bishan. National Day was a joyous occasion and we spotted many Singaporeans wearing our national colours, RED and WHITE.

Songs and dances greeted our YEC members at Bishan, the location for one of the decentralised parade this year. Some of the older CC members told us that Queenstown Stadium was the venue for many of decentralised parades in the 1970s and early 1980s. We spotted familiar television stars such as Michelle Chong!

Over at the Padang, mobile display of SAF military equipment was one of the most impressive segments. We felt immense pride for our national servicemen who had spent much effort in maintaining and polishing the vehicle for this event. It was a bit disappointing we could not see the fireworks. Nevertheless, it was a good experience mingling with fellow Singaporeans singing various national songs and watching electrifying performances.

In conjuction with the Youth Olympic Games 2010, Queenstown CC YEC has held a fun-filled activity, Let's Walk! @ MacRitchie on Sunday, 13 June 2010. Participants young and old alike had been treated to a flurry of activities with the beautiful reservoir park as the backdrop.

Exercising can not only empower good fitness and good health to youths, but it can also bring all youths closer to their families. Furthermore, as the YOG 2010 is getting nearer, the Olympian spirit of endurance and unity has been passed on to the younger crowd in Singapore. The pictures say a lot about the fun our participants have been having!

Health is Wealth!! Keeping a healthy lifestyle is important for us to stay strong against the onslaught of diseases and viruses so that we can spend more quality time with our family and friends and engage in our hobbies and personal activities. About 100 Queenstown Residents take part in the monthly Walk-a-Jog last Sunday on 11th April 2010 to keep fit and stay healthy.

Awaiting Warm Ups

Many of them arrive at 7am and they were not disappointed. They were treated to a surprise when Guest-of-Honour Mr Baey Yam Keng, advisor to the Community Centre, arrived to join them for the walk!

Walking along Stirling Road

After a zesty warm up, residents embarked on the walk-a-jog around Stirling Road and Mei Chin Road. They talked, giggled and learnt new friends along the journey. After the 30 minute activity and cool down exercises, a lucky draw awaited the residents and many of them walked home with attractive prizes such as juice mixer and home appliances!

Our Top Winner!

Subsequently, a free medical check up was conducted where residents get to know their BMI, blood glucose and other health indicators at the booth conducted in the CC. What a fulfilling day! So, join us in the next Walk-a-Jog in May 16th!

Project STOMP, an initiative mooted by the Queenstown YEC, commenced on 2 March 2010. Held every Tuesday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, 22 student volunteers from Queenstown Secondary School participated in this meaningful activity to mentor primary school students who are from the lower income group.

Students from Queenstown Secondary School Took Time Out in This Meaningful Activity

In Project STOMP, primary school students were given additional supplementary exercises to facilitate their learning in subjects that they are less inclined to. In order to make learning fun and interesting, crossword puzzles and pictures are also used. Beneficiaries of this initiative come from the lower income group in Queenstown. Project STOMP is an idea mooted by Queenstown Community Centre's advisory committee to arrest the falling grades of students receiving bursary awards. Youths who are interested in participating in this meaningful activity can contact us at queenstownyec@gmail.com.

In the Cleaning and Painting project organised by PAP Community Foundation (Queenstown), Queenstown Youth Club has assisted residents in packing their homes, painting the walls and doors of flats and remove hazardous materials. This is our renew commitment to serve the community and help those who are financially in need.

As some of us are new to this project, we do not know how to paint. We are glad to have learnt some useful skills and of course, to bond with our fellow youth group!

Some of the residents are rather pitiful because they came from single family. We are glad that we can deliver an early Lunar New Year present for these residents.

Before the project starts!

We are happy!
